Stunning home and office in Brazil

This use to be the home of the late Brazilian artist Victor Brecheret. The house was built in the 1940s in São Paulo, and is rather compact in size (130 m²). It's now the home and office of the architect Guilherme Torres, who has made some minor changes and additions to the building.

The floor plan is the same, but all walls have been covered with new drywalls and received in some parts white paint and in others, a coating that resembles cement texture. The master suite’s toilet is connected to a mezzanine above the kitchen where a bath tub was created. A retractable glass roof can be opened on summer days, to help leaving a mild climate. To soften the rays of sun, a wooden muxarabie, a registered trademark of the architect, was used as a covering following the same pattern of the front door of the house. My Ceramics and a Moon

Today I spent some time taking pictures of a few of my ceramic bowls in the garden.
At one point I got a little carried away
and placed the bowls among the wide, rhubarb leaves.
Made the bowls look like flowers, don't you think?

Finally, tonight, I couldn't resist the rising moon. Mesmerizing..

Tub Love

Love this circular "tub".
Could it be an old wash- or laundry basin put to new use? Clever.
Have no idea where it's from, or who took the pic,
so let me know if you do.

Welcome to designer Dorothee Schumacher's Animal Farm

I came across these images over at the Selby. What a lovely house and "garden". It's the German home of fashion designer Dorothee Schumacher , where she lives with all her chickens, horses, pigs and rabbits. A lovely, mini Noah's Ark. Head over to the Selby for more images of her home.

BicycleGate - my next project?

Now, this is a gate I'd like to make.
Have an old bike. Need some iron and welding skills.
Sigh - think I need professional help to make this, after all.

Jumpstart Spring Living

I found this in my inbox today, and liked the simple and clean styling. It's a press images from Ikea's of their new, fake olive tree Fejka (!) A great way to jump start our balcony season, for us up in the cold North. I haven't seen the tree "in person" so to speak, but if sure looks good on this pic from Ikea

Your secret hideaway by the lake

The other day I blogged about a stunning weekend house by the lake, here. That house sleeps 10 people. This house (actually a garden shed/greenhouse) is a wee bit smaller - sleeps 2, I guess. Both have big windows overlooking the lake. Which house do you prefer?

Wabi Sabi Bathroom Inspiration

I'm in desperate need of some new ideas for my bathroom. Something along these lines, I think. Neutral colors and natural materials will give me the simple and relaxed atmosphere I'm looking for. All of these would do fine. Minus the iron stove, I'm afraid. I'd love to have one in the bathroom, but there is no space.

My wild life garden

This guy moved in last summer. More of a pet than a wild moose. Turned out he was harmed (hit by a car?), and felt safe hanging around people's gardens. He was eventually put down, but was sure an interesting "neighbor" to have around.

Bathroom inspiration

I've been cleaning and reorganizing my bathroom all day. Have been dreaming of redoing it ever since I bought the house a couple of years ago. But so far, the changes are few and far apart. I really need to do something about the walls, but cannot decide on a solution. Anyway - here are some inspiration for me - and you. What's your preference?

Concrete Bathroom - Badrumsinspiration i betong

Planerar du att förnya ditt badrum, kanske detta kan inspirera? Råa betongväggar, bänkar längs med duschväggarna och småsten på golvet. Tappa inte tvålen, bara....
I have the worst bathroom. Ever. If I have anything to do with it, my next one will be like this: raw, grey concrete walls and seats all around plus pebbels on the floor. You better not slip and fall in this shower ;-)

Inspiring Wabi Sabi Ceramics

Finally! Tonight I'll be back in the ceramic studio. I am not doing raku this time, but will try more traditional techniques. For inspiration, I had a look at some of Cheryl Wolff's ceramics. I just love the simple elegance of her work.

Love her bird feeders and bird houses:

Cheryl Wolff lives and work in Northern California, and you'll find more her work over at her Etsy shop here.

Hemma hos: A Gardner's Paradise (part 2)

Two giant dogs guard the wooden gate to The Gardner's Paradise. A beautiful place I visited the other day. A rainy day. And fell in love with the place.
I took some pictures with my cell phone camera, to share with you. Sorry about the quality. I used only the natural light and no styling. Every thing is just as I found it. Any attempt to style this home and garden would have robbed it of it's uniqueness and character. First, some glimpses from inside the  house:
Below: the big kitchen is the heart of the house. Where the Gardner cook and his guest's eat, drink, dance (see earlier post below) and generally have a good time.

One room was full of antique furniture. And several beautiful arrangements of memorabilia here and there:

The hallway:

From the hall, lets visit the garden.
Love the way the garden is divided into small spaces.
A surprise awaits at every corner, behind every hedge or bush.

... don't forget to look down...

Have a seat

And everywhere - old and new garden tools ready to use.
Let's get back to work, then?
