Windows as borders

I confess - I'm obsessed with borders.
Where one interior space meet another.
Where an interior space meet the landscape outside.

The treatment and design of those borders are
the most important task in my design projects or staging of homes.

If I succeed with the borders, then color or style doesn't matter much.
Actually not at all, I've found.

Here are some seemingly simple examples of public and private borders,
that inspire me. And perhaps you?

20 stylish ways to store firewood

I don't know if you've noticed, but I've stopped blogging over at CREATIVE LIVING. New, fun art projects will take time away from my interior design consultancy. Just what I want. But I will not stop blogging all together. I'll still be here. And for sentimental reasons - let me re-blog some old favorites from the other blog, starting with this one. About the many ways to store wood. Enjoy!

Ovan: Kopparkittel via Lost in America.

Wabi Sabi for the table

I just love metal artist Yuichi Takemata's series of handmade cutlery and tableware. Beautiful!
Yuichi Takemata says he loves old things. Nor surprising when you see the well-used appearance of the stainless steel plates and cutlery. He strive to make his items functional, while looking stylish and beautiful at the same time.

You can buy his work online here.

Wooden tableware by Masaaki Saito

The other day I showed you a picture of some wooden spoons, made by the Japanese carpenter/designer/artist Masaaki Saito

Here are more examples of his beautiful, handmade tableware. His wooden plates bring me back to 17 century daily life in Sweden (and other places?) before china, metal and glassware was on every man's table.

I found these images (which I've edited a bit to fit this format) here
where there are lots more images of his work and studio.

Styling for sale

Isn't it interesting to see how different we present homes for sale. Different countries seems to prefer different styles. Here in Sweden homestyling (really homestaging) has become a decorating style in itself. At least on Hemnet, which is an online service for homes for sale in Sweden. As a interior design teacher, I tell my students to stay away from Hemnet. Far away! Because it is quite scary to see how many homes looks almost identical! The same Tolix chairs, the same framed sentences on the walls, the same trows and pillow arrangements in bedrooms and livingrooms, the same candle holders on the tables. I have no explanation for this, other that the "styling" is made by a copycat, with little or no imagination or creativity.

What's the situation in your country?

Here is a Spanish example that I really like. Primarily because the styling is so un-Swedish, and because of the beautiful mix of old and new.
