Black And White Knitting Norwegian style

Have I mentioned that it's really, really cold in Sweden right now? Lots of snow (as in traffic chaos), fire burning in the iron stove inside. And I've got my beloved Lusekofta to keep me warm. It's such a clever design. The pattern isn't "just" decoration. Because you knit the whole cardigan with two threads, it becomes as warm as a jacket! I bought my yarn (grey and white wool) while touring Lofoten/Norway some years ago, and knitted my Lusekofta (using a circular needle) during that stay.

If you feel like making your own, there are lots of traditional, and modern patterns to download online. I searched the word Seterdal (the name of the rural area in Norway, which has given its name to the traditional pattern in these pictures) and found among others Garnstudion. Just remember to chose one size too big - the double yarn tend to make the cardigan tight. Good luck knitting!

Shades of grey

A very grey day - and a wee bit of sunshine. It's winter in Sweden.
These subtle shades of grey, browns and black fits my mood only too well...
Love the simple head board above.
And the Finnish sauna below. That heat!

Time to think of what to wear during the upcoming holidays.
Bling or embroidery? What's your preference?

Winter and a white star

What a lovely surprise! Today I found a gift from Marion/Basiclabel in my analogue mailbox. A white star! Handmade like most everything else this talented lady does. How can I not blog about such a lovely Christmas gift? I'm a great fan of Marion's great blog basiclabelsweden, and have written about it before - here. Now one of her beauties hang, together with other fav. Christmas ornaments, from a branch in my kitchen window. Thanks Marion! Get your own here.

Below is an image from Marion's blog, which show the proper color and design of her stars:

We've got the first snow this year, and I'm working from home today. Watching the birds outside my window, feet in sheepskin slippers, fire in the kitchen stove. Perfect!

Great rugs for your floor. Mattor som rena konstverk!

Ahhh, this is one of those occations when I wish I was a rich girl! Don't you just love these rugs from Nanimarquina? Hand knotted of natural wool, silk and mohair. Beautifully photographed in Spain.

This awesome rug collection is called Chillida, decorated with a selection of Spanish artist Eduardo Chillida's work (1924-2002). All images from Nanimarquina.

Fler bilder: Nanimarquina

Cozy Sunday

OK - it's now official: it's June. It's summer in Sweden. Or so they say.  But temperatures are low and it's raining cats and dogs outside my window, so I keep a fire going , keeping warm and cozy.

The whole thing is really very clever: first you get hot from cutting down the tree. Then you stay warm while chopping it. And now my cheeks are glowing from the burning fire. Mmmmmmm.

Don't have a fireplace? Here are some "fiery" inspiration, if you're planning to build one at your home.
Any summer where you are?

Shades of White + some natural accents

There's been a lot of dark interiors posted here recently. Maybe it's the dark winter days? Maybe it's the current muted color trend, that have inspired me? Let's change that. First a relaxed living room in mostly white, some browns and blues and lots of wood, via John Cullen

Soft and natural

I'm seeing more and more sheep. Not just ultra soft, fuzzy, live ones. But stuffed. For effect. In fashion shots. But - nothing like the real thing, right?
